Mark, I know we've had this conversation before, but is it possible for the ad banners to not include those ads which spawn popups? The "WinFix" one is the one which is particularly annoying, especially since those kinds of popups are almost always virus' or trojans.

We don't control the ads directly; instead we rent the space to a company which sells it as part of a larger network. However, we do ask them not to serve popups. I've never seen one, myself. I wonder if they serve them to you because you're in Australia? We can ask them to look into it.

Mark, I too have had the Winfixer nightmare. It's a complete pain to get rid of. Just thought you might like to know.

Yeah I knew it was set up that way, just wasn't sure whether you could specify which kinds of ads you were/were not willing to have on your site. If you've asked them not to do popups, then the Winfix one should not be appearing. It's one of those "There seem to be errors on your computer! Do you want to install now! Yes/No". Really irritating.

I've gotten this popup too. It doesn't seem to always happen and when it does, it's when I first open the page. It wouldn't be so bad if it only opened a box that went away when you hit no. But it seems to want to open their webpage a few times before stopping - at least for me anyway.

Understand that when any kind of popup ad includes a link or button inside the ad window itself, that link or button is probably a trick. It's just another way to get you to click inside the ad. To close it, click the X in the frame around the ad; or right-click in the task bar and choose "close" from there.

That's what I do. It still opens several pages before it stays closed.

Sorry for not being clear.

I contacted our account manager at the ad company which brokers our ad sales. Here's her response:

"We did have an advertiser that was spawning pops - as soon as we found out, we terminated their campaign. You should be fine now, let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!"

Sounds good. If you continue to see these things, let me know right away and I'll follow up.
