TriadCity Message of the Day
2020-01-07

The Globe Theatre in the Southern Third is now playing Shakespeare's As You Like It. Performances are continual — something about robots never getting tired — and admission is 5 Dinars.

As You Like It is the ideal play to produce inside a MUD or other RPG. The heroine, Rosalind, spends much of her stage time impersonating a man. With excellent tanglefication, Shakespeare has her male character impersonate a woman, meaning, a woman impersonating a man impersonating a woman. Indeed in Shakespeare's day, the part of Rosalind would have been played by a boy, giving us a boy playing a woman playing a man playing a woman. If that's not the Internet I need a new computer.

For bonus points, the play contains Shakespeare's famous speech, "All the world's a stage, and all the people merely players." See what we've done here?

Producing As You Like It in the Southern Third is one of the oldest to-do items on our list. We're feeling all warm and fuzzy over finally bringing it to life. Or maybe we're not. It's the Internet, who's to say?

Meet you in The City!
