USE:

  1. Use form one when there's no possible ambiguity. In the example, there's only one guard in the current room, and that guard has only one item in its inventory identifiable by "coins".
  2. Use form two or three when more information is needed to interpret the command — that is, there's more than one possible target by the same name to which the command could be applied. In the example, there's a tall guard, a short guard, a skinny guard, etc.
  3. Use form two or three when more information is needed to interpret the command — that is, there's more than one possible target by the same name to which the command could be applied. In the example, there's a tall guard, a short guard, a skinny guard, etc.
  4. Use form four when there are many instances of <target> present, and you want to steal from one of them in particular.
  5. Use form five, six or seven when a target has multiple items which might be identified by the same word.
  6. Use form eight when there are many instances of <target> present, and the one instance you want to steal from has many instance of <item> in its inventory.

You must attempt to steal specific items. Usually you'll use the Peek command first, to find out what items a target is carrying.

Items can only be stolen from inventory. You can't steal the clothes off people's backs.

The examples above show many possibilities of differentiating targets and items. There are numerous others. TriadCity does its best to figure out what item and what target you mean. NOTE that in the examples shown above you DON'T TYPE THE PARENTHESES, which are only there to show you how TriadCity will attempt to interpret the command.

There are many conditions which could prevent you from being able to steal. You may be too tired, or paralyzed, or unable to perceive the target. The Game channel will inform you of the outcome of your command.

As with many other TriadCity commands, your expertise with the Steal Skill will determine how effective your attempts to use the Steal command will be.

Steal is a Thief Role command only.

Because the command is enabled for "natural language" parsing, you can use all kinds of variations and still be understood. "Steal coins from the second guard", "steal some coins from the 2nd guard", "steal an apple from the 2nd guard", "steal coins 2.guard" and many others will all do fine.
