As far as I know I'm the first to locate the Liberator headquarters and gain the Liberator Role. The headquarters is cleverly hidden, in a way which makes perfect sense once you've found it. The Role is not what I had imagined.
The Role seems to be something more like "Espionage Agent" than Ninja. I have a "handler" who gives me assignments. I've been told in very clear terms NOT to try to carry out lone wolf actions, which I think means act without an assignment.
I've had several assignments to pick up sealed messages from certain locations or NPCs, and deliver them to certain locations or NPCs - dead drops - without opening them. The seals can be tracked: I'm told if I break the seal, the Liberators will expel and possibly kill me.
I've also been assigned to kill - assassinate - a certain specific NPC. I'm figuring out how to do that safely, without being observed by CrimeNet.
The Liberators appear to have extensive ability to monitor and track the entire game world. I think perhaps they've broken into CrimeNet and are able to use its sensors. The point is: I wouldn't want to cross them.
This is extremely interesting. It's a very different kind of game play than my previous life as a master Thief. I'm not at all sure how my assignments will evolve, or how they're chosen. Or how dangerous they may become.
One other note. The Liberators in their headquarters are not what I expected. There are no "humans", at least when I was there. The Liberators I found were Orcs, Trolls, Kobolds, Ogres, Lizardfolk, Minotaurs. They call themselves "The Slaughterables". I interpret this as an aspect of TriadCity's inversion of the MUD/Tolkien tradition, where in TC the Elves are victims of ethnic cleansing, with many addicts and much depression, while the "XP fodder" from earlier games are trying to save them, and us. I love it.
