TriadCity Message of the Day

Continuing our recent theme of undead hack-and-slash Zones, The Zombie Mall in the NorthEastern Third is today open for adventuring.

Located a few steps east from the Vampire Theater, the Mall is an abandoned, trash-strewn, Zombie-infested shopping center which once upon a time featured well-regarded shops and restaurants patronized by one and all. Now infested by dozens, perhaps hundreds of zombies, the building is ground zero for Zombie Hunters and their allies.

Some lore, and specifically some tips, gathered from our own exploration plus interviews with Zombie Hunter loremasters:

  • The zombies are initially dormant. They stand in place until something they're able to perceive disturbs them. Then, they attack, and, some but not all will swarm when they perceive the commotion.
  • Fortunately, they're very slow, so, it takes a long time for a swarm to become truly dangerous. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them, meaning, once they arrive you could be in serious trouble, especially if your energy has been depleted in long battles.
  • This behavior, though, gives you interesting opportunities for tactics. You could, for example, kill a zombie near the entrance, then run all the way to the opposite end of the mall before the swarm arrives. That will effectively isolate the swarmers relatively far from you, leaving you free (for a time) elsewhere.
  • Alternately, you can come as a group, leaving one or more members to guard against zombie arrivals. This could be especially interesting for masters of K9 armies, which, we hear, are forming. Your dogs can defend against swarmers while you polish off the undead already in the room.
  • Note our emphasis on "perceive". It's entirely possible that Thieves or Liberators or others with advanced Sneak and Hide Skills can Sneak past and around them without being noticed, thus without triggering behaviors of any kind. Would that be useful for you? We'll leave that to you to decide.
  • No special weapons are required to defeat Zombies. Anything sharp or blunt or gnarly will do fine.
  • Neither is the Zombie Hunter Role necessary. Anyone can kill zombies! The Role though gains an exp bonus, and some future perks.
  • Every zombie there is an "adaptive opponent". This means their attributes and skills are tweaked at fight time to give you the advantage, while making the fights exciting and potentially unpredictable. You CAN be killed by these opponents. But, you probably won't be. Keep the risk in mind.
  • Still, for safety's sake, we want to you to be level 10 or higher before going there. The entrance will prevent anyone below level 10 from going inside.

Remember, in TriadCity death is permanent. It's risky to fight anything. As far as risks go, this one is pretty interesting.

Meet you in the City!
