SYNTAX | EXAMPLE | NATURAL LANGUAGE EXAMPLE |
---|---|---|
adopt <creature> | adopt dog | adopt this doggie |
adopt <n>.<creature> | adopt 2.stray | adopt the second stray |
USE:
- Use form one when there's no possible ambiguity. In the example, there's only one Mobile present that can be identified by "dog".
- Use form two when there are many instances of <creature> present, and you want to adopt one of them in particular.
Unlike most TriadCity commands, Adopt searches for <creature> strictly in the room you're in. So, if there's a dog in the room, and one in your inventory — say a statuette of a dog — the command "adopt dog" will refer to the one in the room, not your inventory. If you try "embrace 2.box" to reference the latter, you'll be told that nothing was found.
Adopt can NOT be modified with an arbitrary word of your choice. With most TriadCity commands you can use an intensifying adverb — say, "adopt large dog". Adopt needs you to be more terse.
