Midgaard's support for blind and visually-impaired players

About 60% of Midgaard players self-identify as blind or visually impaired. Blind players are always first-class citizens in Midgaard. Our support for accessibility is layered and comprehensive:

1. Our free iOS and Android apps work well with VoiceOver and TalkBack. Midgaard is also accessible via MUD clients such as VipMUD, TinTin++, or Mudlet. There's a command-line alternative to every mouse or menu option available in the GUIs. The web site is optimized for screen readers, with comprehensive ARIA markup.

2. AI processing enables players who are both visually impaired and non-native English speakers to enter game commands largely phonetically. Thus you can type "read the sine" — s,i,n,e — and the game engine will successfully execute "read the sign" — s,i,g,n — the command you were expecting.

3. In-game signs and messages displayed as popups in our GUIs are instead translated to text for players who've self-identified as blind or VI. We've carefully translated thousands of in-game popup signs to text for this purpose.

4. Our Discord is blind-friendly and populated by enthusiastic and helpful players from around the world. Our Help robot is also blind-aware. Its responses are fine-tuned for non-visual clients. There's almost always someone or something available to answer your questions.

We listen to player feedback and suggestions for improvement. Join us! We look forward to meeting you!
