This sounds really great.

Might be good to tell them they should feel free to ask other payers for assistance, and that we're all happy to help. Sometimes they seem a bit reticent about asking for help, I find, but once they know it's ok, the floodgates open!

And how about a pointer to where maps are?

Yes, I intend to create a new character today to test this new system. Oh, on the point of map pointers.. I have a suggestion. An in game item that when looked at opens the map pages. Maybe call it the atlas of Triad City, and put it on the donation table. Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent here.

One of the suggestions which the server will make is to type 'map', which opens the map pages.

One difficulty is the need to be terse. There's a lot scrolling by on the screen, newbies need to be not overwhelmed. One reason, IMO, why the big long sign at the origin stone isn't so effective. You have to already have figured out how to look at things; and then the sign is like War and Peace.

P.S. would it help to display the newbie messages in a different color? So that they stand out?

I think having the massage display in a different color would help. If you happen to wander into one of the other thirds, the meaasge could be lost the first few time if there is activity about. Catching a glimpse of something in a different color might make them look back to see what they missed.

Also as a side note, while the server does suggest typing map, it doesn't seem to be working.

Ah, excellent. I'm happy about the maps, and not just because I have a cartographer .
I'd agree about the need to be terse. I think a different colour is a good idea, too. I tested it today, and I thought the messages weren't too frequent, except for a couple of things:
1)It gave me the suggestion to sleep at the temple of the king a few times, even when I was already doing so.
2)It counted me as inactive when sleeping, so I recieved the "Do you need help.." message about 7 times. Perhaps if it didn't give that message while asleep?

Excellent! Thanks! I'll tweak it so that if a newbie is resting/sleeping, no messages about resting/sleeping are sent.

Also, so that newbies who are fighting, dead, incapacitated, paralized, etc., don't receive any messages at all.
