The rules of this thread are simple: no bitching and moaning, no pessimistic, sarcastic or snarky comments. Keep it positive. Tell me what you love about TC and why you keep coming back. I'll kick things off since this especially applies to me. I was away for... well, literally years until just recently. So what drew me back?

1) I love that TC is only very partially complete and yet already such an enormous world with such complex mechanics. There is so much to master in this game that I can always think of things I still need to explore further to understand them better.

2) I love that TC incorporates a wide variety of thematic elements. This allows players to fruitfully pursue standard RPG fare like killing and looting, to the more uncommon fare of mature scenarios involving love, hate, joy, fear, humor, understanding, and the pursuit of enlightenment.

3) I love the people! The best thing about TC is the freedom of expression and the comfort with which many players engage in serious role play. This has sparked some of the most intense, hilarious, frightening, and memorable game playing experiences of my life.

So what are your favorite things?

I was hooked from the first sight, the first time I opened the pages and noticed that it was plain text... just like in books. Ohhhhh... wow! Thank you, Colin, for creating this wonderful thread! Well, the things that I love most in TC are:
1) I love the people, and interacting with everyone. Sharing my (character's) narrative with them, weaving a story that holds even some weird and sudden turns. In a way I do believe that we all "write" our own narratives with our lives - and TC is a part of that, but a part where those narratives become very visible.
2)I love making friends and keeping contact with them via email etc, after meeting first in TC.
3)I love being able to have several characters and to play according to my mood... either sweet Gwene, or bitchy Ylva.. also trying characteristics that are not the real me (that is hard, thout, but worth trying). So, I really love to role-play!
4)I love learning more about life, people, myself, literacy, herbs wines, societies, cultures, the universe (... LANGUAGE), and everything. I have really learned a lot of this wicked language of yours after I started to play. Prepositions are still hard though.
5) I love the beauty of our City. Sunrises and sunsets, nights with stars upon us, the gardens and forests. It's amazing how much can be done with words!
Hey, this was just a start, but...I think I am again talking too much. Someone might soon compare me to Chatty Cathy ... eeek!

I agree with all of the above. And here are some of my own thoughts:

1) I find it totally relaxing to be "allowed" (and indeed expected) to roleplay as an adult.

2) I love the way the stories develop in often surprising ways, and how quick the experienced players are to adapt seamlessly to an ever-changing scenario.

3) I love the text idea of the game, so that it is all in your own head -- like reading a really good book but having a hand in writing it at the same time.

4) I love the challenging aspect of the game. Discovering things for myself, and working it all out, and indeed learning new things too. Often I am afk researching something I have stumbled upon in-game.

5) I enjoy the different aspects and "feel" and ethos of the three TC areas.

6) I love the way we are encouraged to participate, such as posting on the graffiti boards, and who knows, that post might just be made a permanent fixture.

7) I have enjoyed getting to know various players, both in, and outside of the game, and feel that some real and enduring friendships have been forged from a somewhat unlikely source.

Oh, and it DOES make me laugh!

Am I allowed to chime in? Things I like:

1) The subjectivity business. Different characters potentially experiencing the game world differently.

2) Oscar. Clever use of the chatterbot technology.

3) IMO the Tree of Life came out well.

4) Y'all!

Colin thanks for starting this thread, it's nice to read the positive things people have to say!

Of course you are allowed!

I totally agree about the Tree of Life, that was one the locales that immediately grabbed my attention years back. It helped that I was into the whole Crowley/Regardie era western mysticism so I guess I was pre-disposed to be excited by a Kabbalah reference.

I had a hard time with this. I love TC but I didn't want to write the same things as everybody else! :}

1) Words, not graphics.
2) Mysterious.
3) Funny.
4) Violence is dangerous.
5) City not country.
6) Not cloned from Tolkien or D&D, not full of elves and dragons.
7) The Roulette game in Virtual Vegas.
The cemetery tombstones.
9) The comedy club.
10) Sammie! I miss you!
