How Does TriadCity Differ From Other Multi-Player Role-Playing Games?

TriadCity is for grownups.

While the adventure MUD genre is dominated by kill-the-dragon style environments intended more or less for teenyboppers, TriadCity is written by and for adults. This is not meant to imply that it revolves around sexuality, but rather that its thematic background and problem sets are not targeted toward stereotypical teenage males. In particular, Triad demands a fairly high educational level and some degree of cultural sophistication which we imagine will be rare among players younger than about, say, 20. We do not mean that you have to have a Ph.D. to enjoy the game. We do mean that the more familiar you are with western fiction, art, philosophy, religion, politics and history, the more likely you are to appreciate the fairly rich cultural allusiveness which is one hallmark of Triad's personality. It also means that the kinds of conflicts, problems, and other challenges you'll meet might be better appreciated by grownups. Have no idea what any of this means? Don't worry about it. Just play and, we hope, you'll have a fun time.

"The city and the literary text have had inseparable histories, and reading the city is only another kind of textual reading."
