cheer

Purpose: cheer on a person, thing, or entire room.
Synonyms: none

SYNTAX EXAMPLES
1. cheer 1. cheer
2. cheer <thing> 2. cheer statue
3. cheer <thing> <qualifier> 3. cheer statue red
4. cheer <qualifier> <thing> 4. cheer red statue
5. cheer <n>.<thing> 5. cheer 2.statue

USE:

  1. Use form one to comment "Rah! Rah!" to no-one in particular.
  2. Use form two when there's no possible ambiguity. In the example, there's only one statue present.
  3. Use form three or four when more information is needed to interpret the command - that is, there's more than one possible target by the same name to which the command could be applied. In the example, there's a blue statue, a red statue, etc.
  4. Use form three or four when more information is needed to interpret the command - that is, there's more than one possible target by the same name to which the command could be applied. In the example, there's a blue statue, a red statue, etc.
  5. Use form five when there are many instances of <target> present, and you want to cheer on one of them in particular.

As is typical of most TriadCity commands, Cheer searches for <thing> in a specific order, starting with the room you're in, then your worn or wielded equipment, then your inventory. So, if there's a box in the room, and a box in your inventory, the command "cheer box" will refer to the one in the room, not your inventory. You'd need to use "cheer 2.box" for the latter.

Unlike certain other social commands, Cheer cannot be parameterized.

"[...] the computer as literary agent ultimately points beyond narrative and toward ergotic modes -- dialogic forms of improvisation and free play between the cyborgs that today's literate computer users (and their programs) have become. What we need in order to achieve this is not an automated playwright or narrator but simulated worlds with emergent intrigants, interesting enough to make real people want to spend time and creative energy there."
